  • Pay ranges come from our salary page for each role and are SalaryLK editorial estimates, not a fintech pay survey.

Fintech jobs: take-home pay after EPF and tax

Monthly figures at the middle of each range above, using the 2025/26 and 2026/27 APIT rates (first LKR 150,000 a month tax-free) and the 8% employee EPF deduction. APIT starts to apply at the mid (3-5 years) level. The employer also pays 12% EPF and 3% ETF on top, so a LKR 425,000 salary costs the employer about LKR 488,750 a month.

Do you need a finance background for fintech jobs?

For engineering, QA, data and DevOps roles, no. Employers hire IT and engineering graduates and teach the payments domain on the job. Our computer engineer salary guide covers the technical paths that lead here.

Finance experience is an advantage in business analysis, product, risk and compliance. If you already work in a bank, those are the easiest doors into fintech: a branch or operations officer who understands KYC and reconciliation is valuable to a digital team. Our compliance officer salary page shows that route.

How is fintech regulated, and why does it matter for jobs?

Payment cards and mobile payment systems need a licence from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, and LankaPay runs the shared rails: the Common ATM Switch, the CEFTS instant transfer system, cheque imaging and the SLIPS network. In March 2020 the CBSL opened a regulatory sandbox, where new products are tested for up to nine months before full launch, with applications made through a bank or financial institution.

Regulation is the reason compliance, risk and security roles are a large share of fintech hiring. It also means fintech jobs are concentrated in licensed institutions and their partners. PayHere, for example, was reported in 2021 as the first aggregated payment gateway service approved by the CBSL.

How do you get a fintech job in Sri Lanka?

  1. Pick a base role. Software, QA, BA, data or security. Fintech hires for the role first and the domain second.
  2. Learn how money moves. Card authorisation and settlement, account transfers, reconciliation, KYC and AML basics.
  3. Build something small. Integrate a payment gateway sandbox into a demo shop or app and put it on GitHub.
  4. Apply to bank graduate intakes and payment firms. Watch the careers pages of banks, LankaPay and payment operators, as well as job boards.
  5. Move sideways if needed. A role at a banking software vendor is a common route into bank and payment company jobs later.

If you are still choosing between sectors, our high demand jobs in Sri Lanka guide shows the evidence for IT hiring, and the best jobs in Sri Lanka 2026 ranking compares fintech roles with other careers.

Our take: learn payments, and fintech pays you for it

On the pay data, fintech roles in Sri Lanka pay about the same as the wider IT market at entry level. The advantage comes later. Engineers and analysts who understand card flows, settlement and compliance are hard to replace, and banks at home and abroad compete for them.

What we would watch out for: "fintech" adverts that are really crypto or investment schemes. A real fintech employer is licensed or works for a licensed institution, and never asks you to deposit money. Before you accept an offer, check the company against the CBSL's published lists.

Frequently asked questions

Are there fintech jobs in Sri Lanka?

Yes. Fintech jobs in Sri Lanka are found in the digital banking teams of licensed banks, at LankaPay, which runs the national payment switches, at CBSL-licensed card and mobile payment providers, at payment gateways such as PayHere, and at software companies that build banking systems for local and foreign clients. Most roles are in Colombo.

What is the salary for fintech jobs in Sri Lanka?

Our estimates run from about LKR 55,000 to 150,000 a month at entry level, LKR 150,000 to 380,000 at mid level, and LKR 300,000 to 550,000 for senior engineers, analysts and compliance managers. DevOps and security leads can earn more. These are SalaryLK editorial estimates based on our salary pages for each role, not a fintech-specific survey.

Which companies offer fintech jobs in Sri Lanka?

Employers include licensed commercial banks building digital banking products, LankaPay, telecom operators that run mobile payment systems such as Dialog Axiata and Mobitel, card acquirers such as Global Payments Asia-Pacific Lanka, payment gateways such as PayHere, and software companies that build banking and payment systems. Check the CBSL list of licensed providers for the current names.

Do I need a finance degree to work in fintech in Sri Lanka?

No. Most fintech jobs are technology roles, and employers hire IT, computer science and engineering graduates. Finance knowledge helps in business analysis, product, risk and compliance roles. If you come from banking, a move into BA, product or compliance work is often easier than retraining as a developer.

Is fintech a good career in Sri Lanka?

For people who like technology and finance, yes. Payment systems need engineers and compliance staff whatever the economic cycle, and the skills transfer to banks abroad. The trade-off is pressure: payment systems run all day, every day, so on-call duty and strict release processes are common. Pay is similar to the wider software industry.

What is LankaPay and does it hire?

LankaPay is the national payment network company, owned by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and licensed commercial banks. It runs the Common ATM Switch, the CEFTS instant transfer system, cheque imaging and the SLIPS account transfer network. Running those systems takes engineers, operations, security and business staff, so watch its website and job boards for vacancies.

How do I get a fintech job in Sri Lanka as a fresher?

Start with a software, QA or data role at a bank, payment company or banking software vendor. Learn how payments work: card authorisation, settlement, reconciliation and KYC. Build a small project using a payment gateway sandbox, and mention it in interviews. Many fintech hires come from graduate intakes at banks and IT companies.

Are crypto and blockchain jobs part of fintech in Sri Lanka?

They are a small and risky part of it. Most regulated fintech work in Sri Lanka is in payments, digital banking and lending, not crypto. Some developers work remotely for foreign blockchain companies. Be careful with local crypto "investment" schemes: the Central Bank has named several such apps and companies as prohibited pyramid schemes.

Which skills pay the most in Sri Lankan fintech?

On our data, DevOps, cloud and cyber security skills have the highest senior pay, at up to about LKR 680,000 a month. Payments domain knowledge, such as ISO 8583 card messaging, ISO 20022 and core banking integration, makes engineers and business analysts harder to replace. Compliance staff with AML experience are also in steady demand at banks.
